It is proposed to extend deadline for filing declaration for 2024 and 2025 reporting years to November 1

Taking as a basis the initiative of the deputies of the National Assembly on convening an extraordinary sitting of the National Assembly and the decision of April 16 of the National Assembly Council, being led by Article 100 of the Constitution and Article 41 of the constitutional law the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, an extraordinary sitting of the National Assembly was convened on April 21.

The draft law on Making Amendments and Addenda to the Tax Code of the Republic of Armenia, the subject of which is the regulation of relations regarding the establishment of deadlines for submitting annual income tax calculations and declarations was on the agenda.

The draft will be debated by the NA decision in a special procedure, the debate of the draft in the second reading will be held after adopting it in the second reading, within twenty-four hours.

The author of the draft, the deputy of the NA Civil Contract Faction, the Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs Babken Tunyan informed that May 1, which is set as the deadline by law, is proposed to be changed for this year and next year, setting November 1. “That is, for those people who will fill out a declaration this year for the previous year’s income, the deadline for submitting their declarations is set to November 1. And for those who will fill out a declaration next year for this year’s income, November 1 also becomes for them. In parallel, after that, the deadline for submitting declarations becomes July 1, and we are setting not only a deadline, but also a starting date. That is, now people can submit a declaration whenever they want, from January 1 to May 1. But we are now setting that the declaration must be submitted from March 2,” the author of the draft clarified.

Babken Tunyan noted that another amendment refers to the deadline of the income tax payment. The key rapporteur answered the deputies’ questions.

The RA Deputy Minister of Finance Arman Poghosyan presented the positive opinion of the Government on the draft. As the rapporteur informed, the draft was revised in cooperation with the Government and is designed to make the introduction of the income declaration system more smooth and seamless.

It was noted that so far, about 35 thousand people have submitted declarations, of which 15 thousand have exercised their right to receive social expenses back. About 1.4 billion drams were returned.

During the exchange of ideas, the deputy of the opposition NA Armenia Faction Agnesa Khamoyan opined that in case of not submitting the declaration will result in criminal liability, which was denied in the final speeches by the draft author Babken Tunyan and the Deputy Minister Arman Poghosyan.

As a result of voting, the draft was adopted in the first reading.
