In a demonstration of solidarity with the Armenian people and a commitment to preserving historical memory, Lexy Mayor Laurent Garcia announced that the park would be renamed the “Garden of Armenia”

On April 27, in Lexy, France, the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Zareh Sinanyan, took part in a commemorative event marking the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, held near the Armenian khachkar installed in Lexy Park.

In his remarks, the High Commissioner emphasized the enduring importance of the pursuit of justice and the responsibility to pass down the historical truth to future generations.

The commemoration was attended by Chaynesse Khirouni, President of the Departmental Council of Meurthe-et-Moselle; Members of the National Assembly Estelle Mercier and Stephane Hablot; the Mayor of Nancy, Mathieu Klain; Dominique Renaud, Representative of the President of the Grand Est Regional Council; Captain Arnaud Noirot, Military Governor of Nancy; André Nersier, President of the “Diaspora Arménienne du Grand Est” Association; as well as more than 200 members of the French-Armenian community.

The official unveiling ceremony of the new name was attended by High Commissioner Zareh Sinanyan, Mayor Laurent Garcia, Hélène Geronimi, Sub-Prefect of Val de Briey and representative of the Prefect of Meurthe-et-Moselle, Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs André Nersier, and Danielle Krachmanian, President of the “Arev” Association.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Zareh Sinanyan and Hélène Geronimi laid a wreath at the Armenian khachkar, paying tribute to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims.
Later that day, the High Commissioner traveled to Nancy to participate in the second session of the conference titled “The Armenian People: Yesterday and Today,” organized by the “Diaspora Arménienne du Grand Est” Association.

During the conference, Zareh Sinanyan delivered a keynote address, stressing the need to more effectively harness the Diaspora’s potential, preserve Armenian identity, and strengthen ties with Armenia.
The conference concluded with musical performances by soprano Varduhi Torossian and pianist Sonia Karapetian.
