The necessity to adopt the law is conditioned by the necessity to restrict the placement of gambling advertisements. It is proposed to impose a ban on the placement of gambling, internet gambling, casino or gaming hall or lottery advertisements at the border entry points, as well as in hotel facilities.
The draft law On Amending the Law on Advertising authored by the MP Narek Ghahramanyan was debated in the first reading at the April 30 sitting of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs.
According to the keynote rapporteur, in recent times, there has been a noticeable increase in advertising for various gambling businesses, casinos, and games of chance on billboards at border checkpoints and hotels. It was noted that it also negatively affects the image of Armenia as a country with a thousand-year history and rich culture.
The keynote rapporteur informed that before the debate of the second reading a number of other changes will be made to regulate the gaming sector.
