The 2024 laureate of the State Award of Republic of Armenia for Global Contribution to Humanity through High-Tech, Dr. Yoshiaki Damon Hagiwara, is already in Armenia. The President of LOCOMTEC AIPS Laboratory, Dr. Hagiwara, has arrived in Armenia to receive his award in the field of high-tech industry.
According to tradition, a press conference will be organized at the office of Viva, the General Partner of the award ceremony, with the participation of the laureate. As in previous years, this year too, a special stamp cancellation ceremony for the Global High Technology Award will take place. The initiator and supporter of the award is Synopsys Armenia.
During the visit, Mr. Hagiwara will meet with the Minister of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, and visit the National Polytechnic University of Armenia, where he will be awarded an honorary doctorate. In addition, he will deliver a lecture at the French University of Armenia, as well as will visit Synopsis Armenia and TUMO centers. The trip will conclude with a visit to the COAF SMART center in Lori region, where the laureate will participate in the “Silicon Mountains 2025” conference and exhibition as a keynote speaker.

Yoshiaki Damon Hagiwara was born on 4 July 1948, in Kyoto, Japan. He moved to Riverside, California, in 1965 to attend high school. In 1971, he graduated with honors from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, receiving a bachelor’s degree, in 1972 a master’s degree, and in 1975 a doctorate in physics in electrical engineering. In 1975, he joined Sony. During his time at Sony, from 1975 to 2008, he was involved in early development of image sensors and digital camera chipsets, including ADCs, DRAMs, high-speed Cache SRAM buffer memory chips, microcontroller chips, and high-performance real-time processors. Before retiring in 2008, he was involved in the development of chipsets for the PS2 and PS3 PlayStation game consoles.
In 2008, Hagiwara founded the AIPLAB consortium and served as the President of the Artificial Intelligence Partner System (AIPS) Laboratory. Today, he is the President of LOCOMTEC AIPS Laboratory in Atsugi, Japan, and is engaged in the development of AI Robot Clean Energy system solutions for the SDGs clean energy and sustainable development goals. Mr. Hagiwara was the Chairman of the Education Committee of the Semiconductor Industry Professionals Society (SSIS) and continues to be a member of the society. He is an honorary alumnus of Caltech, a member of AAIA, a member of IEEE, and a member of IEEE EDS, IEEE SSCS, IEEE CS, IEEE Superconductivity Council, IEEE Nanotechnology Council, IEEE Sensor Council, and IEEE Systems Council.
