Within the framework of his working visit to Japan, the Vice President of the RA National Assembly Hakob Arshakyan met with the Vice-President of the House of Councillors of the National Diet of Japan Hiroyuki Nagahama.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the agenda issues of the Armenian-Japanese bilateral cooperation.
The RA NA Vice President emphasized that Armenia highly appreciates the comprehensive development of relations with Japan, based on mutual respect and democratic values. He noted that Armenia is interested in deepening parliamentary cooperation, taking into consideration the central role of the legislative bodies of the two countries.
Hakob Arshakyan expressed gratitude for the support provided to Armenia by Japan, underlining the importance of Japan’s participation in the sphere of economic development. It was underscored that the parties have untapped potential for promoting economic and investment ties, tourism and humanitarian exchanges.

During the meeting, Hakob Arshakyan noted with satisfaction that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan presented the state award to the Japanese scientist Yoshiaki Hagiwara for his contribution to the field of high technologies.
The parties also touched upon the Expo 2025 world exhibition, noting that Armenia presented the country’s economic, cultural, technological, educational and tourism potential with its pavilion. In this context, the activities of the Tumo Gunma Educational Center, which will provide 1500 students with access to modern professional training and developing skills, were also highlighted.
The Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to the peace-building agenda in the region, emphasizing the importance of unblocking communications, promoting economic cooperation and implementing the Crossroads of Peace initiative. He mentioned that Armenia is ready to sign a Peace Treaty with Azerbaijan and expects a constructive approach from the other side as well.
The Vice-President of the House of Councillors of the National Diet of Japan Hiroyuki Nagahama expressed his support for the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process, emphasizing its importance for ensuring long-term and sustainable peace in the region.
Hiroyuki Nagahama highly appreciated the opening of the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies in Japan, considering it an important initiative in terms of deepening educational cooperation and developing the Armenian-Japanese relations. He expressed special gratitude for introducing the Armenian innovative educational model in Japan.
Hiroyuki Nagahama noted that there was significant potential for cooperation in the field of high technologies and reaffirmed their readiness to support the development of economic cooperation. He also expressed gratitude for the compassion and support by Armenia during the 2024 earthquake.
The Vice-President of the House of Councilors of Japan reported that the Convention on the Elimination of Double Taxation between Armenia and Japan has been ratified by Japan’s two House of Councillors, expressing hope that it will serve to increase bilateral trade turnover.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed the importance of mutual support on international platforms as an important factor in strengthening bilateral relations.
