No Need to “Enlist” in Any Geopolitical Struggle

July 16,2025 11:00

On Monday, during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Donald Trump announced that Patriot missile systems—widely regarded as effective air defense tools—will be transferred to Ukraine. When exactly this will happen and how effective they will be is a matter of debate among experts. For instance, Douglas Macgregor, a former advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Defense, wrote on X:
“The weapons we are sending NATO which are beeing sent to Ukraine will not have much if any impact on Russia.”

In any case, it’s clear that this story is not primarily about military capability—it’s about politics. That’s also how Trump’s statement should be understood: that he’s giving Putin 50 days to make peace with Ukraine, or else he’ll impose very harsh sanctions on Russia.
The question is obvious: why not impose the sanctions now?
The answer is simple—because Trump hopes to strike a deal with Putin. And the fact that Ukrainian cities will be destroyed and thousands of people will die on both sides during that time is seen as secondary.

The fate of the Ukrainian state and the Ukrainian people is of no real interest to anyone.
Now ask yourself: is Armenia more important to the West than Ukraine?
In both cases, the answer is the same—we are being used. Ukraine is being used in a high-stakes geopolitical game. Armenia, meanwhile, is being used for much smaller, tactical purposes.
Pashinyan seems to believe that if he “enlists” in the West’s fight against Russia, he will thereby secure the extension of his power. But that is nothing more than adventurism. A small and vulnerable state like ours should not be aligning itself with any power bloc.

Because in the end, the major players will come to an agreement—and we will be the ones to suffer.
And that includes our heads of state.
