Demolition as a Symbol: Azerbaijan Erases Artsakh from the Map of Memory

September 02,2025 13:40

Today, as the Independence Day of Artsakh is being marked, Azerbaijan once again reveals its true face: on the orders of the dictatorial regime, heavy construction machinery is being used to raze to the ground the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Artsakh in temporarily occupied Stepanakert. This is not only yet another brutal blow to the statehood of Artsakh, but also a deliberate attempt to erase the symbolic values of its statehood. The building of the National Assembly of Artsakh, along with dozens of other institutions, has already suffered the same fate, becoming victims of Azerbaijan’s targeted policy.

The Armenian cultural and historical heritage of Artsakh faces the threat of systematic destruction. Baku is consistently pursuing a policy aimed at erasing all traces of Armenian presence in Artsakh, turning it into a space of historical falsification and cultural emptiness. This is a crime not only against Armenian heritage but also against universal values.
