Viva and Matenadaran: digital protection of cultural heritage and E2E IoT: ready-made business scenarios

February 03,2026 16:55

The preservation of the collections of the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts will be carried out through the VIVA IoT platform

Viva is strengthening its commitment to preserving Armenia’s cultural heritage by implementing comprehensive digital solutions at the Mesrop Mashtots Research Institute for Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran). Through a climate monitoring system based on advanced IoT technologies, automated and digital monitoring will be ensured for the preservation of manuscripts at Matenadaran.

Ancient manuscripts require not only careful handling, but also a controlled, measurable and stable environment. Until recently, temperature monitoring of valuable collections was carried out using traditional mercury thermometers, which limited the accuracy of measurements and the speed of response. The Viva IoT hub will enable Matenadaran staff to quickly identify and prevent potential risks that could cause problems for the preservation of manuscripts. The new system also allows for remote monitoring and long-term data collection, giving specialists the ability to oversee and effectively manage preservation processes from anywhere in the world. In case of any deviation from established parameters, the responsible personnel will immediately receive notifications via SMS and e-mail.

“The preservation of centuries-old cultural heritage today requires modern technological solutions. The Viva IoT Hub makes it possible to exercise more effective control over the conditions for the preservation of ancient manuscripts. These are not just museum devices but a complete solution that includes a set of sensors, communication channels, a collection, analysis, visualization and warning system, as well as a user-friendly interface dashboard that presents the data in a convenient format. It is an example of Viva’s approach to corporate clients, a unified B2B platform and a complete investment cycle. Months ago, Viva acquired a very important manuscript for Matenadaran, which was considered lost for 100 years. Thus, Viva participates in both the “return of manuscripts” and the safe storage of the returned treasures,” said Armen Avetisian, Viva’s General Director.

The Viva IoT hub will not only help maintain the optimal temperature in the Matenadaran collections, but will also monitor humidity levels, carbon dioxide (CO₂) concentration, and atmospheric pressure, which are crucial for the preservation of unique manuscripts. The system collects and records data in real time, analyzes it, generates reports, provides remote monitoring, and notifies the responsible staff members in case of deviations (SMS and email).

“We are very pleased that in Viva, Matenadaran has gained a high-quality, professional and socially responsible partner. This monitoring system, which is critically important for the safety of manuscripts, is the second collaboration with Viva. It was preceded by a symbolic initiative: with Viva’s support, in 2025 we acquired the life-saving Gospel, that was lost about 100 years ago. Thus, our partner is involved in two of Matenadaran’s strategic initiatives: the “Return of the Manuscripts” campaign and the safe preservation of the returned manuscripts. We are enriched by this partnership,” said Arayik Khzmalyan, Director of Matenadaran.

The project demonstrates how Viva’s modern E2E solutions, based on the multifunctional B2B IoT Hub cloud platform, help create a controlled environment for storing valuable assets and at the same time serve as a bright example for companies in various industries.
The project also includes the creation of a specialized database on the climatic conditions of manuscript preservation, which will allow analyzing processes, identifying trends and developing the most effective strategy for preserving cultural heritage.

Viva IoT Hub is a single platform that can unite many sectors: culture, commercial real estate, offices, manufacturing, logistics, HoReCa services, financial sector, utility infrastructure, mining, and environmental monitoring, as well as implement end-device management in an automated mode, which increases business efficiency and reduces costs.
