This is an important agreement on cooperation between Armenia and Greece in various cultural fields, as well as a precedent for concluding similar agreements with other countries: the Deputy Minister of the RA Education, Science, Culture and Sports Artur Martirosyan said at the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport on February 3, presenting for debate the draft law on Ratifying the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Hellenic Republic on Theft, Illegal Excavation and Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property and Its Restitution to Its Country of Origin.
The rapporteur noted that the existing relations between Armenia and Greece allow to expand bilateral relations in the field of culture as well. The Deputy Minister informed that the Agreement envisages the exchange of information on cultural values of interest, as well as programs for the exchange and training of specialists.
The Agreement will give an opportunity to facilitate the identification and return of cultural property illegally exported from each other’s territory, in accordance with the current legislation, international conventions and agreements.
The Committee endorsed the draft law. It was proposed to include it in the draft agenda of the NA upcoming regular sittings.
