“It’s noteworthy for us that Armenia is recognized globally for its educational innovations, particularly with a program that comes from the public school system. Generation AI is truly becoming one of Armenia’s key signature education initiatives,” said Zhanna Andreasyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports.
Armenia will be the only country outside the U.S. represented in the finals, standing out among 110 applicants in the competition.
“This is a remarkable achievement that highlights Armenia’s leading role in integrating AI education into the public school system. It once again proves that small countries like ours can be globally competitive in innovation and technology,” said Anush Ayvazyan, head of FAST’s General Education Programs and program lead.
Since 2023, students in Generation AI classrooms have been studying Advanced Algebra, Python programming, and AI as core subjects, while also benefiting from career guidance, skills development programs, and competing in both international and local AI Olympiads and competitions.
Currently, the program is available in 23 high schools across all regions of Armenia, making the country one of the first in the world to integrate AI education at the school level.
By the 2026-2027 academic year, the program will expand to 45 high schools, reaching over 85% of Armenian high school students.
The Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST) was founded in 2017 with the aim of creating a favorable ecosystem to promote technological innovation and scientific advancement in Armenia. FAST develops and pilots programs with the potential for a long-term, sustainable impact on Armenia’s science, technology, and innovation ecosystem. Over its nine years of operation, the foundation has implemented 31 programs and impacted more than 27,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries.
