President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan held a meeting at the Presidential Residence with President of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, who arrived in Armenia on an official visit.
The presidents first held a private meeting, which was followed by an expanded-format meeting involving the delegations of the two countries.
Vahagn Khachaturyan welcomed the Latvian President’s visit to Armenia and emphasized that it represents an important opportunity for the further deepening of bilateral relations and for identifying new directions of cooperation. The President of the Republic expressed gratitude to Latvia for its continued support for the development of the Armenia-European Union partnership and for the democratic reforms being implemented in Armenia.
“You are not visiting Armenia for the first time. You have visited our country before, but this is Your first visit as President. Your visit is of special importance to us. We highly value our relations with Latvia, which are friendly and fraternal in nature.
We thank Latvia for the support provided to the Republic of Armenia, especially in the strengthening of democratic institutions.
Once again, I welcome You and express hope that Your visit will give new impetus to the continued development and strengthening of our relations,” President Khachaturyan stated.
The President of Latvia expressed gratitude for the warm reception, stressing that he highly values the friendly relations established with Armenia and expressing confidence that the visit of the delegation led by him will contribute to the further expansion of bilateral cooperation.
The interlocutors discussed issues on the agenda of Armenian-Latvian relations, emphasizing the importance of intensifying political dialogue and expanding cooperation in various fields. In this context, the sides highlighted the continued development of the Armenia–Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) dialogue format established in December 2024.
During the meeting, the importance of interparliamentary cooperation in strengthening bilateral relations was emphasized. The sides noted with satisfaction that active and effective cooperation has been established between the parliaments of the two countries, while the interaction between friendship groups also contributes to enhancing cooperation on international interparliamentary platforms.
President Khachaturyan noted that the Armenian government is consistently implementing the process of aligning with European Union legislation and standards, aiming to achieve full institutional compatibility. In this context, Latvia’s experience as a successful example of European integration was highly appreciated.
The sides also discussed opportunities for deepening economic cooperation. The President of the Republic reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to discuss various investment projects with Latvia, emphasizing the importance of reciprocal visits by business delegations, the organization of joint business forums, and the establishment of direct links between the investment agencies of the two countries.
The opportunity of launching direct flights between Riga and Yerevan was also discussed, which would contribute to the development of economic ties, tourism, and people-to-people mobility.
The meeting also addressed prospects for cooperation in the fields of digitalization, modern technologies, and artificial intelligence. The President of the Republic noted that the development of education, science, and innovative technologies is among Armenia’s priorities.
The interlocutors also touched upon regional developments. President Khachaturyan presented Armenia’s efforts toward establishing peace in the South Caucasus, emphasizing that the new realities emerging in the region create broad opportunities for the development of interregional connections, economic cooperation, and communication projects.
