Paruyr Hovhannisyan highlighted Armenia’s initiatives, including its leadership on genocide prevention and the “Education for Peace” General Assembly resolution

On 22 June 2026, on the margins of the International Peacebuilding Week, the Permanent Mission of Armenia to the UN, together with the Permanent Mission of Djibouti and the UN Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect (OSAPG), organized a side event, entitled “Partnerships for Integrating Prevention into Peacebuilding: From Policy to Practice.”

In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment, including in its capacity as a member of the Peacebuilding Commission, to advancing prevention as a core component of sustaining peace. He underscored the importance of resilient national institutions, inclusive partnerships, and translating early warning into timely action to effectively integrate prevention into peacebuilding efforts.

Ambassador Hovhannisyan highlighted Armenia’s initiatives within the UN to advance the prevention agenda, including its leadership on genocide prevention and the recently adopted General Assembly resolution on “Education for Peace”. Drawing on Armenia’s experience in responding to the recent refugee influx, he underscored the value of partnerships among national authorities, United Nations agencies, and development partners in strengthening resilience and social cohesion.

The panel featured remarks by H.E. Mr. Mohamed Siad Doualeh, Permanent Representative of Djibouti to the UN, the representative of the Permanent Mission of Morocco to the UN on behalf of H.E. Mr. Omar Hilale, Permanent Representative of Morocco and Chair of the Peacebuilding Commission, Mr. Chaloka Beyani, Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, Ms. Elizabeth Spehar, Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding and Peace Support, and Ms. Claudia Fuentes Julio, Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights.
