REPUBLICANS ABOUT THEIR NOMINATIONS

February 02,2007 00:00

They say: the party will decide, they will do.

The President’s order about holding NA elections on May 12 entered into force yesterday. We tried to find out from parliamentarians about their intentions for nomination. First of all we asked the RPA parliamentarians who are 54 in the current parliament. RPA council member Samvel Nikoyan said: “No, there is no need to nominate my candidacy by majority system.” Armen Ashotian, another member of RPA council said: “The continuation of my political activities completely depend on the political decision of the party. I myself exclude my nomination by majority system.” RPA council member Hamlet Haroutiunian, whose financial position isn’t enough for the struggle for majority system, said: “What the council will decide, I’ll submit to the council’s decision”. Rafik Petrosian and Nahapet Gevorgian want to be nominated by majority order but they wait for the party’s decision.
It seemed, the RPA faction leader Galust Sahakian will be nominated by proportional electoral system. But it was announced that he would be appointed in the executive and his son, Arman Sahakian will be nominated in the proportional list. Galust Sahakian has neither denied nor affirmed that information till now. Our attempt to get an answer was also failed. “As a politician, I’ll have my special place in the policy, he said. – But today I’m not ready to speak of certain lists, positions as nothing has been discussed yet.”
There are some electoral districts where two Republicans may compete with each other. For example in Erebuny community where Armen Danielian and Armen Purtoyan will rival. RPA recruit Hakob Hakobian and Rafik Grigorian will compete in Martuny, Hranush Hakobian and Tigran Arzakantsian will compete in Gavar. We are sure that the RPA leaders will leave only a Republican in the above-mentioned electoral districts.
But nowadays, everything is uncertain. We tried to find out from RPA council member Armen Mkhitarian how does he declare that he will come to the NA with the party list and won’t be nominated in Arabkir community by majority system. “I myself have made such a decision”, – Mr. Mkhitarian answered. Manvel Ghazarian, the RPA member, owner of “Vedi Alco” informed that he was going to be nominated by majority electoral system. There is some information that Aramayis Grigorian; the owner of “Avshar”, supported by ARF will be his rival.
An interesting struggle is going to be in 37 electoral district in Syunik where Serge Sargsian’s brother Alexander Sargsian will be nominated. It seemed he would be the only candidate there but it I spoken that Samvel Babayan, the leader of “Dashink” is gong to nominate his candidacy there.
