NOMINATIONS ARE OVER

March 06,2007 00:00

28 political forces and 173 persons are going to participate in the forthcoming NA elections.

The last term of nominations in the forthcoming parliamentary elections by proportional and majority systems were expired on March 3. As a result 28 parties and 173 parliamentary nominees have been registered.

Some famous parties didn’t nominate their candidacy as they did during the previous elections in 2003. “Powerful Homeland”, “Bagrevand”, “Work, law, fist”, “Innovated Communist Party of Armenia” etc were among those parties.

Instead, several parties, unknown till February 26, have nominated their candidacy in the forthcoming parliamentary elections: “Christian-democratic Renaissance” Party. NA former parliamentarian Sos Gimishyan and writer Aidin Morikyan were in the proportional list of that party, and that party’s secretary general Levon Martirosyan leads the list.

As regards nominations by majority electoral system, they were rather surprising. Two of 10 nominated candidates in N 4 polling station in Arabkir are from “Prosperous Armenia” Party /PAP/, one of them, Hayrapet Hayrapetyan, has been nominated by the PAP, the other, Nshan Vagharshakyan, the advocate of RA chamber of advocates, has nominated his candidacy by civil initiative. It is obvious that this is one of the electoral technologies for taking votes from rival candidates. Hrayr Karapetyan from ARF and Aram Manukyan from ANM also nominated their candidacy in the last day of nominations.

Hayk Babukhanyan was the last one who nominated his candidacy in the polling station N 5 in Davitashen.

Tigran Petrosyants, the deputy head of “Nig Aparan” compatriot union, nominated his candidacy in the N 6 polling station of Ajapnyak. We should remind that he was heading Arayik Hayrapetyan’s / “Arayik of Lavanda”/ pre-electoral headquarter in Eghvard during the NA special election in 2004.

NA parliamentarian, the member of “Republic” Party Smbat Ayvazyan didn’t nominate his candidacy in the N 7 polling station in Malatia-Sebastia. It means that NA businessman parliamentarian Samvel Alexanyan don’t have alternative in this constituency.

ULP member Samvel Hovsepyan /”Admiral Samo”/ is going to rival with NA parliamentarian Hakob Hakobyan /”Ledy Hakob”/ in the N 8 polling station of the same community. ANM head of administration Ararat Zurabyan has also nominated his candidacy in this polling station.

NA parliamentarian Gevorg  Hakobyan’s nephew Garik Hakobyan who has his participation in the events of “TEC krug” is among candidates nominated in N13 electoral district.

But this isn’t the end, as both the proportional and majority electoral systems must be registered. According to RA CEC the expiring date of registrations is April 7.
