“There are a lot of methods for fighting against election bribe, if you are not clear, don’t try to blame anyone else, if you sell yourself, you should be bought. One shouldn’t blame only the taker – don’t take, don’t sell yourself”, Republican MP Manvel Badeyan was proposing his version of conducting a fair election during a meeting with journalists today.
Economist Bagrat Asatryan, the Armenian National Congress representative, doesn’t agree with him. The latter made an example when a youth was kidnapped in the electoral district he had voted and had personally informed the appropriate bodies, but there had been no response whatsoever. “They humiliate people, you must take, if you don’t you will give your vote anyway”, said Mr. Asatryan and added surely that there would be the same atmosphere at the next election, “The authorities must guarantee that there will be no clash and no rogue will abuse the youth.”
Republican MP Manvel Badeyan said frankly that once they had knocked at his door and offered 5000-dram election bribe too. He accepted the bribe, “I took it, but didn’t fulfill the order that I should have done.”
