Zhirayr Sefilyan, a member of the initiative group of the Sardarapat movement, expressed that idea in Gyumri today, responding to a question of www.aravot.am what he thought about the “pro-Serzh” attitude of the Union of Yerkrapah Volunteers (UYV) as a participant in the Artsakh war. “It is the time to call things by their proper names. Let me say that I, being a participant in the war, have never been a member of the UYV – I don’t want to talk about reasons yet, but let me say that there are many people like me. The idea of militia is a good idea in itself, but Yerkrapah institution was founded on a wrong basis from the beginning and it has served the political authority since the first day. I am saying this completely honestly, not trying to offend any figure. However, the young generation must know the whole truth. So, it is a myth, it is a delusion that the Union of Yerkrapah is a force, that they are devoted people, they have contributed greatly to the war. I am telling you that if you check out the names on the list of members of the Yerkrapah today, 90% have never been to Artsakh – serious people, the majority of the people that have contributed greatly to the war are out of the UYV today,” said Zhirayr Sefilyan.
He is convinced that there are only those figures left in the Yerkrapah who kiss the establishment’s hand, not being able to resist the temptation of piling up riches. “As opposed to all their former sacrifices, they could not resist the more dangerous enemy of peace, which is materialism. I want to say that it doesn’t matter from the political perspective whom the Yerkrapah have endorsed, because the same Yerkrapah has become a property of a few oligarchs. Serzhik Sargsyan, being the main oligarch, has sub-oligarchs – the Yerkrapah has become just one of them. There is neither spirituality, nor purity there and be sure that that institution will not take any part, if a new war starts – the new militia that will be born among the people will take a serious part and I am convinced it will be born,” concluded Zhirayr Sefilyan.
