The Chief Communist’s Advice, Don’t Attribute Violence to the Republican Party of Armenia

April 17,2012 17:43

“Regardless of who are the implementers of that violence, from which party they are, the Communist Party condemns such phenomena,” Ruben Tovmasyan, the Chief Secretary of the Armenian Communist Party, said talking about the violence used against candidates for MP recently.

He thinks that it is not right to attribute the violence to ruling parties, because, “I am convinced that the Republican Party will condemn those phenomena. Sometimes it is not right to attribute individuals’ activities to a whole party, if the party’s policy is that, then it is a whole different matter, but two people may meet and settle an argument and one of them may be a Republican

and the other from a different party… There have been and will be tensions between the government and the opposition in all countries, but one shouldn’t focus on individual cases and say the ruling party, attribute that to a whole party is not right, in my opinion.”

In his assessment, the situation is stable in the pre-election period, “I don’t see clashes between the pro-government and opposition parties, I don’t know what subsurface clashes there are or how they agree with each other.”

The chief Communist is convinced that the tension on the political stage will deepen later, “The election campaign that has started shows who uses what methods, what luxury they afford and what dollar fireworks they organize. Watch the videos of parties and you will see all methods.”
