Two days ago, during a consultation convened by the Cabinet of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan talked about two main subjects – problems of Syrian Armenians and what had happened with Ramil Safarov and what Armenia had to do. Regarding this issue, the President stated in particular, “Yes, Azerbaijan that heroizes criminals has found itself in a deadlock, which makes it make up a lie every day, blame a so-called ‘sin’ on Armenia every day and state about it. Pathetic lies. I would say a series of lies. A parade, a parade of lies. The government of the neighboring country that has been keeping its own people in a continuous informational blockade thinks that one can permanently deceive a whole nation. Time will tell whether it is possible or not. However, the well-known saying claims otherwise.” To recap, the President asserted, “We have many things to do in this regard and we will do them without delay. Meanness and lie will not be put up with.”
At first sight, this kind of a speech made by the President makes an impression that everything is rather serious, the intentions are also serious. Whereas Lyudmila Sargsyan, an interlocutor of www.aravot.am and a member of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) parliamentary group, has the following opinion on the consultation convened by the Cabinet, “The whole meeting of the Cabinet can be assessed as a play with a few acts. No practical step was discussed there, the issues, which the President had been aware of for the past 4-5 years, were talked about. Therefore, if Serzh Sarsgyan hadn’t been pleased with that Cabinet, which is in line with the sentiments of political forces and the whole people, the President should have demanded Tigran Sargsyan’s resignation, or at least, shouldn’t have appointed him the Prime Minister again. In that case, I would have thought that regardless of our not positive attitude toward Serzh Sargsyan, perhaps, the man tried to ensure some progress. Whereas all this is a cheap performance, by which they try to feed people with lies and this kind of performances. It is shameful and enough, our people don’t believe anyway, but how they use their votes is a different matter. It is not suitable for Serzh Sargsyan as the incumbent President to organize such performances. He wants to increase his own weight by betraying his own team. However, nothing will change as long as Serzh Sargsyan behaves like this, as long as Tigran Sargsyan is the head of the government. He cannot demand anything from any member of the Cabinet, since everyone was appointed to perform a certain task. Therefore, this country needs a new government, which will realize its goals to a certain extent, very quickly.” Coming back to the Safarov issue and the resolution adopted by the European Parliament, Ms. Sargsyan said, “Armenia gained and can gain nothing from that, since we shouldn’t have encountered such a fact, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Security should have been aware of it and prevented it. Therefore, however much they beat their chests, it is a fait accompli and at the end of the day, Azerbaijan doesn’t give a damn about the opinions expressed in Europe and Armenia. They did what was necessary, what they gained from it is a different matter. Regardless of what one does after
the fact as a government, as a national security service, one has already lost, the water has flowed.”
