“Handshake in the space” among MPs

March 12,2014 13:43

On July 17, 1975, the Soviet “Soyuz -19” and the American “Apollo” spacecrafts joined in the space, which took the flight two days ago from Baikonur Cosmodrome and CanaveralPeninsula, respectively. It was technically a difficult task, and the two partied to getting to it for about three years. It was also a manifestation of the political will of the leaders of the two countries, a move toward easing tensions between opposite camps. The handshake in the space is considered an equivalent event to the meeting with political parties represented in the parliament. At least, that is how such meetings are presented both by the ruling powers (with anxiety and disgust), and “non ruling powers” (pretending that these meetings “will put an end to Serzh Sargsyan’s regime”).

In the turmoil of the dispute, the matter even reached the offense addressed to the first President of Armenia, which, of course, is categorically denied. In fact, let me remind you that the vast majority of participants of PAP-ARF and PAP-ANC meetings are deputies of the National Assembly, and they, in theory, at least have the opportunity to meet more often inside the walls of the parliament without forming delegations. Moreover, it seems to me that they are obliged to do it; it is their job. The citizens have chosen them just for this very reason and the taxpayers pay them just for this reason. It would be bizarre and unnatural if they do not meet.

What is being discussed? We do not know, and it will be clear from further statements and initiatives: they will demand either the resignation of the government, or the resignation of the president. The opposition in Armenia was never engaged in any other matters. As to what extent these requirements will be called to life, it is determined not at the meetings rather that by public pressure. Will the change of personalities lead to change of the regime? Of course, no. Because the “regime”, as it is rightly noted by one of our politicians, is neither in police batons nor in overseas assistance rather than in the mind of our residents and is due to historical circumstances. If our mode of thought is changed, the rest is a matter of technique. Anyway, if the authorities are really concerned about the contacts between the Deputies, the only way out is shutting down of the National Assembly. In the case, “non-governmental forces” will chat with each other via Skype.
