The Final Editorial

June 13,2026 10:00

About two months ago, I informed our esteemed readers that after June 15, I would no longer be writing editorials. That decision is unrelated to the elections, although it was obvious that Pashinyan would attempt to usurp power. But in my journalistic career, this is neither the first such case nor, unfortunately, will it be the last. Most likely, during my lifetime, we will not witness that long-desired situation in which a government loses an election to the opposition, peacefully leaves office, and congratulates the winner.

The instability will continue. But, again, my decision to stop writing editorials has nothing to do with that. I will also say candidly that covering a story that repeats itself decade after decade becomes somewhat monotonous. However, I am neither disappointed nor discouraged, nor am I planning to end my journalistic career.

Just imagine being obliged to write an article every working day for more than twenty years. At least for me, that represents an enormous intellectual and physical burden which, at the age of 66, can lead to health problems. That is why I decided to lighten my workload somewhat. Starting tomorrow, I will also leave Facebook, whose toxic feed, endlessly scrolling through it, is likewise harmful to one’s health. However, correspondence via Facebook Messenger will remain available.

The rest of my work will continue unchanged. Once a week, I will prepare the Watershed video interview for the Aravot website. I will also continue recording the Spiritual Choice series once a week, as well as my videos about books and music. I will keep writing my weekly analytical articles. I will also continue producing my short political videos (shorts), which will be available across all Aravot platforms as well as on my YouTube channel, though not on a daily basis. I will continue writing other articles for the Aravot newspaper and website, but again, without the obligation of doing so every day.

I would also like to add that my fifth book on Tchaikovsky will be published soon. I have already begun work on a new book devoted to the great Italian masters of opera.

As I have already written, both in the newspaper and on the website, the “Editor’s Column” will be replaced by the “Commentator’s Column,” which will be authored by Hakob Badalyan. Hakob is an excellent analyst and, which is not unimportant in this case, he is 15 years younger than I am.
