Materials on the Armenian Genocide in German and English are disseminated in Berlin

April 07,2015 17:24

And famous people are presenting the Genocide survivors’ stories on the screen in the backyard of Maxim Gorki Theater House.

Numerous events are implemented in our country related to the centennial of the Armenian Genocide and a part of them is aimed at showing the world that this kind of thing has happened to the Armenian people, or to remind and inform about it and so on. Do these events help to do a good or correct PR? Or, does a grief need a PR? In these days, forget-me-not and the Genocide Memorial are reprinted on the clothing up to accessories and various object, so whether it is the right way to do, and if this is not a mourning PR, then what is it? In response to the above questions of “Aravot”, Chairman of the “Armenian PR Association” Scientific-informational NGO, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Journalism of the Radio and Television at the YSU, PhD Astghik Avetisyan said that the expression PR should not be used inappropriately.

According to her, whatever anyone does calls is a PR, thus downplaying the social connection phenomenon. “This is a process of using professional tools and technologies, which allows drawing attention and publicizing given phenomenon. On the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, historical reviews, photos and footages are used, in other words, all the materials that enable spreading out information, making them public, using convincing tools so that the countries that have not recognized the Genocide recognize it. These are justified methods. I do not treat it badly that people disseminate the symbol, this is reminiscent of the fact that they involve people in a process where each of us is a demander, but also we are witnessing a phenomenon that you could see any kind of objects in the market by ignorant and tasteless manufacturers; we should fight against banal level.”

Astghik Avetisyan, who is currently in Germany, in conversation with us informed that she is attending an international program and wears the forget-me-not on her dress, and when people ask her what it is, she has the chance telling them. According to her, many do not know even what has happened in 1915. Astghik Avetisyan passed an important message, “In the center of Berlin, at the backyard of Maxim Gorki Theater-House, 4 big screens are placed, which shows the Aurora, and each screen successively displays celebrities who tell the genocide survivors’ stories. You enter the theater-house and the entire lobby is Armenian, demanding and reminding. Famous Armenians have joined this campaign who enjoy a public respect and attention in the said country. Frankly speaking, I would have never thought that I would see this scene in Germany – many published articles in German and English that are offered to the Germans.”
