“I consider the decision of moving the summit of prime ministers from Yerevan to another state unacceptable. Moreover, by the interpretation that if it is held in Yerevan, then it can be perceived by Azerbaijan as a support to Armenia. I have a question, well if the EaEU member states do not support their member and the CSTO member states do not support their member states, whom else they should support. This speaks to the fact that the leaders of the same states do not treat these structures with responsibility,” said NA RPA faction MP Khosrov Harutyunyan in an interview with Aravot.am.
To our observation that the EaEU seemed not to justify Armenia’s hopes, it is completely different picture in terms of the security guarantees, the EaEU member Belarus made a pro-Azerbaijani announcement, Kazakhstan intervened to move the Prime Ministers’ Summit from Yerevan and not to upset Azerbaijan, while Russia is extremely cautious and neutral, Mr. Harutyunyan continued, “The fact that today we have a temporary cease of the hostilities, it did not happen spontaneously. It was thanks to the direct efforts of the Russian Federation. It is another question as to why this initiative took place three or four days after the large-scale military actions, I do not want to talk about it now. At least temporarily but Russian Federation had a role in the cessation of hostilities.
The fact that the EaEU member states attach more importance to the economic relations with their partners within the EaEU rather that the economic relations with the non-member state prove of the fact that the EaEU as an integration structure is not established. It speaks to the fact that the EaEU Member States have not realized and do not even understand the need for this economic project.”
To our other observation that the same indifference is seen from the CSTO when Azerbaijan fires in the direction of the Armenian territories, the lawmaker replied, “The cannonade on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is not new, I understand that in the background of large-scale hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan border, such inroads may form other interpretation and other perspectives. But this is not the first case. According to the CSTO Charter, this structure may interfere or make appropriate decisions if the country undergoes a military threat and has officially applied. Our political leadership realizes the entire responsibility of the situation and so far, does not see the appropriateness of involving the CSTO forces. Let us not forget that today Armenia presides the CSTO and has all the opportunities to undertake the most radical moves in this direction. But if this is not done, then there is no need for it. This resource should be used very carefully, in other words, to use it when needed.
