On June 5, an exhibition of information dedicated to Europe Day was organized in the North Avenue. The opening ceremony was attended by Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Piotr Switalski, and EU countries’ ambassadors. Piotr Switalski announced that the main purpose of the event is to provide the population of Armenia with information on the EU-implemented programs and initiatives. He noted that this year, the focus is directed to young people; note that the event from May 18 to June 5 is entitled “The European Union for the young people of Armenia.
” The Ambassador is confident that Armenia’s brighter future will be ensured by the youth, and the EU delegation with its activities contributes to the enhancement of the quality of education and employment opportunities, “We help the Armenian youth to implement their wishes in Armenia and do not seek happiness abroad.” Piotr Switalski added, “Indeed, the EU is the biggest donor in Armenia.

Every year, we, as the European Union, spend about 50 million euros in Armenia, plus the initiatives with a number of EU-implemented projects. The scope of our activities is broad. We are building roads, deal with solid waste management, implement clean drinking water and agricultural development projects, support small and medium enterprises. We also support for the improvement of the state border checkpoints of the Republic of Armenia. We support the civil society. But the European Union is not exclusively a charitable initiative, we are not an ATM, which gives cash. We are Armenia’s friend and partner and help Armenia to modernize itself. We help Armenia to develop the right policy, we assist the society and the government of Armenia on the way to build a better future.”
Concluding his speech, the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia said, “Europe will stay in Armenia and continue to cooperate. You can trust us.” The celebrations dedicated to the Europe Day will be wrapped up with an open-air concert, which will take place in Freedom Square at 19:00.
