Why is the draft on conscription of all 18-year-olds delayed?

June 23,2016 13:25

“The draft proposed by Tevan Poghosyan and Ruben Hakobyan was one of the options, and the government had its view, about which David Harutyunyan stated several times during the question and answer session: now it is in its next stage,” – said RA Minister of Education and Science, Levon Mkrtchyan, in an interview with Aravot.am, referring to the new package on the conscription of all 18-year-olds prepared by the government on the basis of the draft proposed by the MPs of Heritage faction. Note that the draft was sent back again for the amendment, now it is at the Ministry of Education. The minister added that the final results are summed up, and in the near future, the draft will be introduced to the government session.

To our reminder that Tevan Poghosyan has expressed a complaint about the delay of the draft, noting that weeks have been passed from the government’s promised a week, Levon Mkrtchyan replied, “There is no delaying, it is in the process and is a document that solves many fates.” Aravot.am asked about the final position of the minister, “I have already made it clear that we have solved this problem. 6000 students are listed for the conscription to the army. Our work assumes uniformity, in other words, you cannot explain that 20 students are admitted to the university faculty, 16 of them are conscripted and 4 remain in the faculty because there could be a difference of a half-point at the exams. Therefore, we have offered our option, about which I have repeatedly mentioned.”
