Ahead of Hovhannes Tumanyan’s 150th anniversary, a symposium of the works of young sculptors has opened in the birthplace of the Great man from Lori. 12 young sculptors from Armenia and Artsakh participated in the symposium. They made the sculptures of Tumanyan’s characters by their imagination.
Gevorg Mnatsakanyan, for example, has decided to make the sculpture of the fairy-tale entitled “The Speaking Fish”. He says he had been working on cross-stones until now, but this offer has been dearer to him and he has decided to participate. “This was such an attractive offer that one could not refuse it, skip it and not to participate. I am very grateful that such an opportunity was created for youth. This fairy-tale is about a good deed and I like it very much. I tried to present the fairy-tale by my imagination as a sculpture”, says Gevorg.
Young sculptor Vahe Mnatsakanyan has started statuary since his early ages. He says he has participated in a set of symposiums. And to this symposium he gives the greatest importance: “We communicate with various sculptors, and then we learn from each other some things. Then the atmosphere we lived together was very interesting. And we wait for the opening to see the result of what we have created.”
For Vahe Anush’s character is the dearest one. He says he has tried to present the character together with his inner emotions: “The sculpture should be placed in the center of the village. The first jug held by Anush is intended for becoming a fountain by releasing water. And the second jug she holds with the fingertips, I have tried to illustrate the emptiness of the jug by that. I have also tried to express her sadness, love story, everything.”
The symposium of the young sculptors has launched in June 26 and will last 1 month.
