‘Hard situation is in place, you give difficult questions the answers of which I do not have’: Gevorg Kostanyan

May 02,2018 20:38

The President of the Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Republican MP Gevorg Kostanyan is not informed if the issue of nominating a candidate had been discussed within the party or not. Rumors indicate that the RPA has made an announcement about the nomination of no candidate.

Karine Achemyan, an MP from RPA had also mentioned about this in her interview.

Asked how Gevorg Kostanyan treated RPA member Felix Tsolakyan’s vote, he replied: “I will not comment on it.” If it was possible that during the forthcoming week other RPA members voted in favor of Nikol Pashinyan, he responded: “I have never predicted and will not predict.”

Gevorg Kostanyan does not share the overview that the “against” votes of the Republicans in the Parliament were a deception. “No one should be blamed or labeled for his or her viewpoint and opinion. Any given individual not participating in the rally, including the MPs, have right to opinion and viewpoint as much as the participants of the rally. Subsequently, no one has right to label someone for his or her opinion and viewpoint.”

“It is a difficult situation, you give difficult questions, the answers of which I do not have,” said Gevorg Kostanyan, being asked questions such as how should we come out of the evolved situation, what should be the RPA’s decision, what decision should the opponent party make and that the protesters have already started to block the houses of RPA MPs.

Turning to the announcements as if the RPA does not exist any longer, Gevorg Kostanyan said: “Any party with its ideologies and approaches has a right to existence. It is not right to deny from this perspective.”

“There is still a week ahead, we will talk later on. It is very hard for me to inform about the decision of the Republicans, make predictions. You have seen that I have not taken part in party decisions ever, inasmuch as I am not partisan,” said Gevorg Kostanyan, replying to the question if the party will vote in favor of Nikol Pashinyan, in his opinion the next week. Is the RPA inclined to participate in the extraordinary parliamentary elections? Gevorg Kostanyan said – “there are no grounds for making suchlike decisions, meanwhile it is a Constitutional solution, which is not excluded.”
