As we have already informed, Serj Tankian, frontman of Armenian-American metal band System of a Down, arrived in Armenia several hours ago. From “Zvartnots” airport Nikol Pashinyan and other members of the movement accompanied him to Republic Square where he made a speech.

He first apologized for missing “this beautiful revolution” noting that in the last 2-3 weeks he was spiritually in Yerevan: “I want to thank you, my dear fellows, for being able to create a homeland worthy of Armenian pride through your peaceful rallies. Now the whole world is looking at you as a positive example. Through your songs, dances, and smile you reached your goal”.

According to Serj Tankian, the world has long known the Armenian nation with genocide, earthquakes, and war, but with this movement, the rating of the entire Armenian nation rose: “Opposition was in the ideology of this revolution, and love was the heart of it. This power of love has overcome all other negative forces. But first, you overcame your fear and your indifference, finding unity and strength in that unity. I have been dreaming about this day for years like you and I feel proud to stand by your side”.

He added: “For years they have been saying, Serj, come to Armenia and hundreds of thousands of people will follow you. My answer was always the same: when the Armenian people are ready to rebel they will not need Serj Tankian or any other person since they will be willing to fight for personal and family rights of all. Bowing before you, I have come to follow and support you, to create a homeland of dreams”.

Summing up his speech, he thanked the movement leader Nikol Pashinyan and the young organizers: “For they were able to turn your despair and anger into a positive, peaceful and effective struggle. Bravo! Now the time of patience must begin, that is, the whole work is just beginning, we must continue our struggle through this work, reforms, and investments because the road for justice is not built with a few victories, dear people”.

Tankian summed up his speech by singing a part of “Bari aragil” song.
