Famous economist of Armenian descent, Daron Acemoglu, who had earlier had a phone conversation with the newly elected PM, Nikol Pashinyan has given an interview to Armenian “Agos” periodical of Istanbul, addressing the situation in Armenia and the phone conversation with Pashinyan.
“We should be hopeful towards Armenia’s future, but we should also accept it is not going to be easy to eradicate and abolish the corrupt system,” said the economist.
According to Achemyan, the Armenian public, as well as the Armenians residing abroad, are hopeful that they are now in a turning point and a public transformation is needed, which will pave a way for more competitive and dynamic economy. The economist has also said that the PM of Armenia has called him and asked if he would like to help.
“Residing outside the country, I do not know how and how much I will be able to help, but I said I will be happy to make efforts,” he added, expressing a hopefulness to visit Yerevan. At the same time, Acemoglu has mentioned that the terms of his visit are still unclear for family reasons.
