Shortly before judges of the Criminal Court of Appeal of the Republic of Armenia Mkhitar Papoyan, Manushak Petrosyan and Ruzanna Barseghyan made a decision to postpone the publication of the decision regarding the petition on changing the detention as a preventive measure against the civil activist, member of New Armenia oppositional movement Gevorg Safaryan and releasing him. The court explained that the delay was due to the fact that the investigation of the appeal was still in progress, and that the court will refer to the preventive measure only after the investigation of the appeal.
Let us remind that Safaryan is one of the accused in the case of Jirair Sefilian and was found guilty of preparing for mass riots in 2015.
The Criminal Court of Appeal continues investigating the appeal of Safaryan, as well as Sefilyan and others, by which they demand to change the verdict of the first instance court. Let us remind that by that decision Sefilian was found guilty of forming an armed group, keeping illegal weapons and attempting to seize buildings of a strategic significance.
