“I do not think that major shifts will take place in Armenia-Turkey relations in the near future. Erdogan has a rough pro-Azerbaijani position which does not leave a space for Armenian side to maneuver,” said political scientist Stepan Grigoryan referring to the presidential elections taken place in Turkey in days and Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s re-election in president’s position. He finds that Armenia should continue the cooperation with Turkey at the level of the society and experts.
Turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan said: “Although all fields are “restarted” by the new authorities of the Republic of Armenia, the active cooperation in foreign relations should proceed. It is a focal question to keep the foreign political issues on the agenda.”
And according to political scientist Yervand Bozoyan, Turkey has become even more dangerous and bellicose now: “Erdogan will act more roughly in Caucasus. The rumors implying that anything will change in Armenia-Turkey relations are fake. The inner strengthening of the Republic of Armenia, the creation of powerful economy and army will make the Turkish elite pay regard to us. Besides, Turkish elite will go for a compromise only if we are active, if the authorities of the Republic of Armenia differentiate Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.”
