‘Putin not satisfied with Serzh Sargsyan’s policy’: Russian-Armenian political scientist

July 24,2018 20:37

“I do not think Putin was satisfied with Serzh Sargsyan’s policy. There was no personal sympathy between them. Serzh Sargsyan did not pursue a pro-Russian policy”, referring to Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation, said Russian-Armenian political scientist Karine Gevorgyan at a press conference.

According to her, Russia’s position on the Armenian “My Step” movement was obvious: “Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Zakharova’s statement was a sincere stance because she said they supported the will and choice of the Armenian people”. Karine Gevorgyan believes that the main issue of the new Armenian authorities is to increase the sovereignty of Armenia: “The higher its level, the deeper the relations of Armenia with Russia, the United States, and the EU will be, although there may be disagreements in relations between any countries”.

According to the political scientist: “It is no coincidence that at the meeting with Putin, Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasized the sovereignty of Armenia. No need to seek for other contexts in what he says, all his statements are in line with his aspirations”.
