Hakob Beglaryan: ‘Even if Nikol Pashinyan resigns, the RPA should not nominate a candidate’

October 10,2018 16:38

Republican Party member of parliament Hakob Beglaryan was interviewed by Newspress.am. He is currently not in the country, but we were able to get in touch with him and talk about the latest events in politics.

– What do you have to say regarding the RPA nominating a candidate after the prime minister resigns?

– According to the constitution, there are two ways to have snap elections: not electing a new Prime Minister or not supporting the government’s plans… I think that it will be wrong if another Prime Minister candidate arises after the prime minister resigns, and especially if they are elected. Today, Nikol Pashinyan is able to restrain the public, but if he isn’t the prime minister tomorrow, there will be nothing to force society to stay quiet and that will be the end of the parliament.

In my subjective opinion, even if Nikol Pashinyan resigns, the RPA should not nominate a new candidate.

– Finally, do you think that snap elections need to be held in December or not?

– Taking into consideration the political crisis in the country, I support the dissolving of parliament and holding snap elections in December. That is the demand of the people; it’s what the people want.
