Member of the My Step faction and Vice-President of the Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs Artak Manukyan was asked by Aravot Daily and 168.am in an interview about how the changes in minimum wage will impact the salaries of officials. He said that the logic of the authors of the proposal, Babken Tunyan and Varazdat Karapetyan, was that it would not have an impact on the salaries of state officials. It would not have an impact on the salaries of state employees, but would have a social effect instead.
“If nothing changes within the current settings, 68 thousand AMD can create certain risks in this regard,” he said, adding that they will try to mitigate those risks.
The deputies of the My Step faction proposed to raise the minimum wage to 63.5 thousand AMD, but the government decided to raise the minimum wage to 68 thousand AMD.
Artak Manukyan, overall, considers the increase in the minimum wage to be an extremely important tool. “If you do not look at the current trends correctly and you increase the minimum wage by too much, this can lead to additional risks in terms of unemployment.” The deputy observed that the state has a number of social obligations, and the last time the minimum wage was changed was in 2014.
