Head Secretary of the Armenian Weightlifting Federation, Pashik Alaverdyan, made a sensational announcement while voting was taking place for the ‘10 Best Athletes of 2019’ competition.
“Most likely, the International Olympic Committee will award Armenian team member and 2016 Olympic Games silver medalist Simon Martirosyan the gold medal from the Rio De Janeiro games in January of 2020. The reason is that champion Ruslan Nurudinov’s results after doping tests were taken for the 2012 London Games (where he won 4th place) were positive and, therefore, his victory in Rio will be voided. This means that Simon Martirosyan will be declared the Olympic champion.”
