Government activities should be aimed at developing anti-crisis and strategic measures

March 23,2020 20:00

The Commission for Coordination of Activities to Prevent the Spread of Coronavirus in the Republic of Armenia met today in the Office of Government, Chaired by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The Prime Minister noted that studies show that the situation with coronavirus can last much longer than originally expected. “In this regard, we need to develop a vision on how we should organize public life in our country. The general logic and strategy should consist in the fact that we must find relatively free and safe spaces where we can carry on our activities while keeping track of new developments, of course.

One thing is clear: there are huge uncertainties all over the world in connection with the spread of the novel coronavirus, that is, no country can today claim that the situation is under its full control.

The most unexpected information is coming in. For example, I read yesterday that authorities in one of the most developed countries, I do not want to call it, officially admitted that they are facing a shortage of tests, they cannot test the required number of citizens and so on. Thus, we must continue endeavoring according to the same logic,” Nikol Pashinyan said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government’s activities should be divided into two groups. The first covers the activities of the Commandant’s Office, which will deal with operational issues, and the second should be the development of anti-crisis and strategic steps so that we do not have a collapse in such a situation.

The responsible officials reported progress in the ongoing efforts to prevent the spreads of coronavirus. It was noted that steps were being taken to import new batches of tests and medical masks.

Deputy Prime Minister, Commandant Tigran Avinyan stressed that the situation is under control and all necessary preventive measures are being taken by the Commandant’s Office.

Minister of Healthcare Arsen Torosyan advised that there are no patients in serious and grave health condition among the 194 people infected with coronavirus; the condition of all patients is satisfactory.
