Alla Sahakyan: ‘People become graceful when they are grateful’

August 13,2020 19:43

Singer, actress, and fashion designer Alla Sahakyan, who was interviewed as part of Aravot Daily’s “Femini” series, fondly remembers how she participated in drama, speech, embroidery, and carpet-making lessons as a child even though she was also studying at an economics vocational school. Her father wanted her to become an economist.

Alla Sahakyan’s first major theatrical role was Ninuccia from Natale in casa Cupiello (Christmas at the Cupiello’s). But she had already begun to play different theatrical roles since her sophomore year due to the efforts of Jemma Martirosyan, Sos Sargsyan, and Davit Hakobyan. The actress listed the names of all the individuals who appreciated her talent and provided her with the necessary support. Some of these people included Davit Hakobyan, Jemma Martirosyan, Hrachya Gasparyan, Vigen Stepanyan, Nikolay Tsaturyan, Nelly Pirumovna, and Narine Grigoryan. She also considered the role of her husband- jazz musician, composer, and pianist Garry Kyosayan- to be important.

When asked if she is a singer or an actress, Alla Sahakyan responded that she loves both fields equally and she graduated from the theatrical institute and the conservatory. “I have always believed that everything needs to be studied in depth. I simply never took vocal lessons and declared that I am a singer. I love opera, but after I graduated from the conservatory, I gained a love for jazz. Then I began to record myself performing, and after I met Garry, my love for jazz grew even deeper. Garry loved the fact that I had a deep love for jazz music that is exemplified in my theatrical works. He said that I need to delve deeper. I was inspired and we began to practice.”

Quarantine was not boring for Alla Sahakyan. She recorded herself reading stories for children. She said that she also has young children and she knows how difficult it can be to inspire children, especially in these conditions where they are cut off from theater and all other entertainment spots.”

Alla Sahakyan did not exclude the possibility of writing a book one day because the buildup of energy is taking her in that direction. Before her daughter, Maria, was born, she wrote stories, so she believes that she will do so again in the future.

Alla considers herself to be a successful person. She quoted from a German fantasy and said that, when a person gets lucky, people consider that to be cleverness, but they blame others for their failures and never themselves. She said it is already an achievement to be born. Therefore, it is important to ask God for wisdom to understand how to start a family, how to establish relationships with people, and how to start new projects. Alla Sahakyan also considers herself to be a grateful person most importantly. She never forgets to be grateful for everything, including the little things. She said that people become graceful when they are grateful.
