“I have not heard such a statement. I have not heard any official from the government or a high-ranking official of the Russian Federation saying that they are going to open Russian schools with the Armenian government. If you have the source, please give it to me,” Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Armenia Vahram Dumanyan told reporters after Thursday’s government session, answering the question of how he would comment on Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s statement on opening Russian schools in Armenia. Dumanyan said that such an issue is not on the agenda at the moment, but they want to develop the knowledge of foreign languages - Russian, English, and French.
When journalists quoted Lavrov’s statement, the Minister of Education and Science again said that he was not familiar with such statements. “Our ministry has not had any contact with Lavrov. Any program really deserves attention,” he said, noting that they attach importance to the issue of popularization of the Russian language, especially in the modern world, when communication is an important tool.
