“If I were him, I would at least have the courage to sign a document – resignation” : Seyran Ohanyan on the issue of being in the current government

October 21,2021 19:30

“A year has passed, but the realities have not been assessed. It is not public figures who can assess, but people who have the relevant information,” stated the head of the Armenia faction of the Armenian National Assembly

Seyran Ohanyan during the discussion organized by the Truth for Generations initiative. The parents and family members of the young people who were killed during the 44-day war were also present at the discussion.

According to Seyran Ohanyan, by his definition, the lies that were told that certain generals did this or that do not correspond to reality. Only people with state and military leverage can control the situation. On this occasion, Seyran Ohanyan clarified, “It can be the government with its entire staff, the entire staff of the Security Council under the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the National Assembly with its especially supervisory functions, and finally the enforcement agencies  needed to be created with internal committees or interdepartmental committees that would have provided an analysis that discussed all the flaws that existed before the war and after. But this has not been done for a year. What the current authorities are talking about, the assessments about the elimination of the effects of the war, do not correspond to reality. We are talking about the captives and the missing. A meeting with the relatives of the missing was organized in the National Assembly. As a result of long discussions, we came to the conclusion that it has been talked about for a year, but in Armenia, there is no interdepartmental collaboration on captives and missing soldiers. The commission should have a corresponding program. But for a year now, no one in power has said that this commission should exist.”

In response to the questions of if it was possible to avoid the war, and if he were in power instead of the current government, what would he do, Seyran Ohanyan answered, “Where the negotiations end, the war begins. A government came to power that started from scratch. The idea of unity was disrupted. Nothing was done in the field of public administration to put the potential of the state on the military or to mobilize public administration.”

According to Seyran Ohanyan, even the small successes that took place during the last war were due to the bravery of the commanders and soldiers. And what would he do if he were in power instead of the current government, Seyran Ohanyan answered, “If I were in power, I would at least have the courage to sign a document: resignation, and bring to power brave people who at least did not lose, who could sit at the negotiations table, and continue the whole negotiation process with dignity.”
