“Is the resolution of recognition for the sake of salvation (and not secession) being discussed?”- on Thursday, during the preliminary discussions of the 2022 state budget in the National Assembly standing committees, Armenia alliance MP Armen Rustamyan asked Deputy Foreign Minister Vahe Gevorgyan, considering the possibility of Armenia’s recognition of Artsakh. The Deputy Minister answered, “What happened during the first and second wars in Artsakh clearly shows that the Armenians of Artsakh cannot live under the control of Azerbaijan as Azerbaijan is pursuing a policy of de facto annihilation.
The clear proof is the complete absence of Armenians in the territories under the control of Azerbaijan today. The principle you say is clearly substantiated by this fact. I think the approach, the thesis that the Armenians of Artsakh are threatened with annihilation under the control of Azerbaijan, is also pushed forward during the negotiations.”
