“Has Artsvik Minasyan been slaughtered? He has been saying for 30 years that we will be slaughtered”: Zhirayr Liparityan

December 15,2021 15:30

Historian and diplomat Zhirayr Liparityan was in the National Assembly. After a two-hour meeting with members of the Civil Contract faction, he told reporters that he was not familiar with Cavusoglu’s statement, that he had read it in the morning by coincidence and had nothing to say. Official Turkey has stated that “reciprocal special representatives will be appointed with Armenia.”

The Armenian side also announced that it is ready to appoint a special envoy for dialogue with Turkey. Liparityan said that he has always agreed to normalize relations with all our neighbors. In response to the question of whether Turkey dictates preconditions- give up the Artsakh issue and the issue of recognizing the Armenian Genocide- Liparityan responded,  “I have given several interviews and I have nothing more to say.”

In response to Aravot’s question regarding his commentary on criticism towards his “White Paper” strategy, with some saying that it is a “black paper” for Armenia,, Liparityan answered, “What would you expect, people who do not want to approach this realistically and want to live in dreams with their so-called dreams, what should they think about that ‘White Paper,’ which is an invitation to think and conduct politics with thought?” Aravot asked if he was dreaming, but a while ago Artsvik Minasyan said, what is a dream when a neighbor wants to slaughter you, what kind of neighborly relations can we have with them?

Zhirayr Liparityan answered, “You know, Artsvik Minasyan lived in Armenia, didn’t he? Has he been slaughtered? He has been saying for 30 years that we will be slaughtered.” Liparityan responded to the observation that we had been slaughtered during the 44-day war, urging to read his latest book.
