I leave the shouts of “Get lost,” “Leave,” and “Reject” to the fans

February 02,2023 10:30

At the school where I teach, during one of the classes, there was a discussion about the fans, and I showed the footage where the fans of the Moroccan national team rioted in Brussels when their team lost to the French national team in the semi-finals of the World Cup. The children’s reaction was very healthy: “And what’s the point? Should anything in the game have changed that?” “There’s no point,” I answer, “just people stuffing their emotions, cooling their hearts.”

Fanaticism is just such a thing. Not finding principles and values in reality on which one can rely, the fan chooses any hero or anti-hero and starts shouting at him. Over the past 25 years, my daily posts have been overwhelmingly fan-based. They are eight types: Levon-fanatics, Kocharian-fanatics, Serzh-fanatics, and Nikol-fanatics, as well as anti-fans of Levon, Kocharian, Serzh, and Nikol. Those eight species are also combined and interbred in some way.

The most active, of course, is the “antis.” What they say usually goes something like this: “You’re mostly correct in criticizing, but since you don’t say at the end: “Robert (Serge, Nicol), leave, and then you have no spirit.” But during all these 25 years, I am sure that resignations solve no problem. The problems are solved with the right goals, implementation mechanisms, and institutions.

Has Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation solved any problems, even corruption? Still needs to be resolved. Don’t doubt that after another change of power, there will be resounding revelations about today’s “Sashiks” and “Gagik Khachatryans.” Will Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation stop the disastrous course of the state? No, it will not be suspended. Therefore, I don’t see any politician or force now having a plan of clear, consistent, realistic, and understandable steps to prevent this process.

By the way, with all due respect to the intellectuals who signed the joint letter, I think today is not the time to demand the resignation of Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan.

And in general, I leave the calls “Get lost,” “Leave,” and “Reject” to the fans. Most consumers are interested in that topic. Not to me.
