“As the co-chair of the Minsk Group and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, France is obliged to pursue the peaceful settlement of the Artsakh conflict,” citizens started a demonstration in front of the French Embassy yesterday with this urge, requesting a meeting with the Ambassador.
Activists called on France to take the initiative. They put the issue of the situation in the Republic of Artsakh on the agenda of the UN Security Council and bring UN peacekeeping troops into the Republic of Artsakh.
In a conversation with Aravot.am, Levon Hayriyan, one of the initiators of the gathering and the chairman of the “For the sake of Hadrut” NGO, said that they want to explain the following to the French Ambassador to RA. “There is no other way out, and the West can carry out a humanitarian intervention in Artsakh because there is no other way to deal with the Russian-Turkish force. Only humanitarian intervention can have an effect, after which recognition of Artsakh’s right to self-determination is needed.
We are trying to clarify that it is impossible to introduce a democratic system into an autocratic regime and that Azerbaijan is the most autocratic country in the world; there is no question about that. Aliyev inherited his power 20 years ago from his father, who was from the Soviet KGB (The Committee for State Security). Imagine, there has never been such an autocracy in the world, and they want to push the small democratic island of Karabakh into that autocracy. Moreover, if the leadership alone was an autocrat, something could be done, but the society cannot live with each other there. After the massacres of Sumgait, Baku, Ganja, and Maragha, not a single Azerbaijani said words of apology or remorse.

And they want to bring us there.” According to Hayriyan, first of all, our country needs a new leader, who will not say that the country has no defense capability, will not say that Ararat is not ours, Artsakh is not ours. “If he stuck to his chair after these statements, it means that he is carrying out the plans of other countries.”
Hayriyan answered the question: what tools does France have, and how can it intervene and solve the problem? “France, the USA, and the West have a great toolkit; just seeing the approaches of our leaders, they participate a little lazily, but we want to make them understand that these people must be ruled, even over the head of the leadership, because the administration does not serve our people.”
The French Ambassador was not there. Therefore the meeting did not take place. The embassy employees took the citizen’s letters and contacts and promised to contact them.
