On March 6, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan met with the Director of Programme Co-ordination of the Council of Europe Claus Neukirch as part of her working visit to Strasbourg.
The interlocutors discussed the details of the programs jointly implemented by the Defender’s institution and the Council of Europe. In this context, Anahit Manasyan emphasized that she highly values the long-term and effective cooperation formed between the Human Rights Defender’s Office and the Council of Europe in the field of human rights protection.
Within the framework of the meeting, reference was made to the program for the protection of human rights in the field of biomedicine, including the issue of ratification of the Oviedo Convention by Armenia, the work carried out in the direction of the protection of women’s rights, the prevention of domestic violence, the need to ratify the Istanbul Convention.
Issues related to the state of human rights protection in the armed forces were discussed, the importance of the project implemented in that field was outlined. The Defender also presented the activities carried out in the direction of protection of the rights of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno- Karabakh, the fight against discrimination, intolerance, hate speech, the right to freedom of assembly and a number of other areas.
