August 05,2024 15:15

The Armenian Heritage Foundation of Philadelphia announced recently that its inaugural charitable and cultural event, is an evening dedicated to celebrating the life and accomplishments of the legendary French-Armenian chansonnier, Charles Aznavour, in recognition of the centennial of his birth.

The event will be held on Saturday, September 14, at 5:30 p.m. at the historic Philadelphia Club, located at 1301 Walnut St.

Aznavour, who died at age 94 in 2018, performed worldwide until the very end. He sang in five languages, wrote well over 1000 songs, appeared in scores of movies, including Atom Egoyan’s film “Ararat,” and sold over 180 million albums. In 1998, Aznavour was named Entertainer of the Century by CNN.

Born in Paris to immigrant parents, he remained steadfastly devoted to his Armenian heritage.

Festivities shall begin with cocktails and exquisite hors d’oeuvres, with scenes of the soon-to-be-realized Armenian Heritage Walk at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and memorable audio-video moments from Aznavour’s extraordinary career as a backdrop.

Guests will also enjoy French cuisine crafted by the Philadelphia Club’s award-winning chef as an homage to Aznavour. Both French and Armenian wines will be served throughout.

The evening’s highlight will be a captivating performance by acclaimed young French Armenian singer, Hakob, who will perform Aznavour’s most cherished songs. Hakob was the winner of the 2015 Prodiges classical French singer’s contest and a semi-finalist of “The Voice France” in 2020.

Tickets are priced at $1,000 per person, and all proceeds will be earmarked for the Armenian Heritage Walk project, a community initiative dedicated to honoring and preserving Armenian legacy. In addition, all proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Armenian Heritage Walk, a direct result of a generous benefactor who has volunteered to underwrite the evening’s expenses.
