▪️On April 24, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Balayan, Head of the Mission of Armenia to NATO Arman Israelian, and diplomats from the Armenian diplomatic missions in Brussels participated in commemorative events marking the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The events took place at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Belgium and near the Armenian cross-stone (khachkar) dedicated to the memory of the martyrs of 1915.
▪️Ambassador Balayan delivered a speech in which he highlighted Armenia’s efforts to prevent such crimes and emphasized the significance of the United Nations’ designation of December 9, 2015, as the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and the Prevention of this Crime. He also underscored the adoption of the resolution on the “Prevention of Genocide,” presented by Armenia at the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council in April 2024.
▪️Ambassador Balayan stressed the importance of shaping the future based on the lessons of the past, emphasizing that Armenia is committed to promoting peace, reconciliation, and sustainable development, ensuring that such atrocities will never happen again.
▪️The Bourgmestre of Ixelles Commune Romain De Reusme, Member of the Belgian House of Representatives Michel De Maegd, President of the Committee of Armenians of Belgium Robert Unusyan, and other officials also delivered speeches at the event.
▪️The event was attended by the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Belgium, diplomats, high-ranking officials from the executive and legislative authorities, members of the European Parliament, and representatives of the Armenian community of Belgium. They laid flowers at the khachkar dedicated to the memory of the martyrs of the Armenian Genocide as a sign of respect.
