The complete English translations of the indictment and verdict in the case of Ruben Vardanyan have been published for the first time and are now accessible on the Free Armenian Prisoners website. Spanning roughly 3,300 pages, these documents formed the basis upon which an Azerbaijani military court sentenced a civilian to 20 years in prison.
The publication of these records offers an unprecedented opportunity to examine the case files and gain insight into the judicial proceedings in Azerbaijan, revealing the nature of the “evidence” relied upon and the specific charges under which Ruben Vardanyan and other Armenians remain unlawfully detained, as a substantial portion of the published material directly pertains to the cases of other Armenian prisoners, as well.
As the representative of the interests of Armenian prisoners of war and detainees before the European Court of Human Rights, I hereby appeal to the international legal and academic communities — practicing attorneys, researchers, professors, law departments, and professional associations — urging you to examine these documents and provide an objective professional assessment.
