On September 22, the working visit of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, to Brussels commenced. As part of the visit, the Human Rights Defender met with Ms. Martien Schotsmans, Director of the Federal Institute for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights of Belgium.
During the meeting, discussions focused on challenges regarding the guarantees of independence for NHRIs, improving mechanisms for their effective functioning, as well as opportunities for developing cooperation between the two institutions.
It was emphasized that guarantees of the independence and effective functioning of NHRIs must be ensured both at the legislative level and in practice, while any legislation or practice that threatens the independence of NHRIs must be excluded.
The parties emphasized the importance of strengthening professional ties between national human rights institutions and continuously exchanging best practices.
