TIGRAN URIKHANYAN’S NEW POSITION

November 10,2007 00:00

\"\"According to “Aravot’s” information, former leader of the Progressive Party of Armenia Tigran Urkihanyan will hold the position of Prime Minister’s assistant. Tigran Urikhanyan said on this occasion: “At this moment I have to offers, both of them refer to the positions in the executive authority. Both of them are worthy for discussion and are being discussed. The rest is after making a decision.” He has also an offer from the sphere of business but Mr. Urikhanyan doesn’t want to be engaged in business”. Serge Sargsyan’s adherent capability will also be used in the public sphere: “My resignation was noticed, and I didn’t stay at home as the youngest pensioner”, – he says and adds that there have been different proposals for collaborations but he preferred to restore “Stability” public structure, by changing its staff. The proposals have been made from the Armenian communities of Eastern countries: to change such a powerful movement, which will play its role during the upcoming presidential elections. Our interlocutor also notes that the staff of that structure is “unemployed”. Razmik Davoyan, Ervand Manaryan, Volodya Badalyan and others were among the leadership.
But the problems still exist in the Progressive Party of Armenia. Acting head of the party was Robert Aharonyan but the tension was so acute that Nune Ghumashyan, the secretary of administration turned to the Municipality to get allowance to hold an action of protest in front of the Party building. They will protest against Mr. Aharonyan’s passive activities and changes made inside the party. The main reason of protest was that Mr. Aharonyan had “made” a decision to hold and action on November 13 but the majority was against it. By the way, the Municipality has already permitted that action: the members of the party will walk on streets of Yerevan holding candles, spirit lamps reminding people that the nightmare will continue if Levon Ter-Petrosyan comes back.  Nune Ghumashyan and her adherents don’t consider it as a political step.
