Gagik Minasyan, a member of the RPA parliamentary group, doesn’t rule out that the European observers will base their assessments on the assassination attempt on Paruyr Hayrikyan and will exploit that incident. Mr. Minasyan said during a conversation with www.aravot.am that the incident would cast a shadow on the electoral process, “On the electoral process that was unprecedentedly successful and can cause problems with regard to post-election developments and assessments of it.”
Mr. Minasyan thinks that the European observers’ response to the incident would depend on the attitude of the politicians inside the country, how they would describe the incident.
He also said that the Hayrikyan incident was beneficial for all those forces that were hostile to the democratization of Armenia and legitimate elections. Gagik Minasyan didn’t specify which forces he meant, external or internal.
