State approach

April 12,2016 12:01

Frankly speaking, the meeting of the first and the current presidents and the subsequent interview with Levon Ter-Petrosyan inspired me. In particular, his message in the interview was clear: at this moment, all political problems must be left aside and strengthen the security of Armenia and Artsakh. Perhaps, all responsible politicians should behave so. Incidentally, Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s opposition was not displaying this kind of a state approach during the 1992-94 war.

In this context, the following idea expressed by the first president is also important, “Serzh Sargsyan must feel strong at the negotiation table having the nation’s support. But, at the same time, feeling the need of this support at the moments of external danger, the administration led by him is obliged to make some positive steps, to face the people, conduct a real fight against corruption, arbitrariness of law enforcement agencies, monopoly licentiousness, election frauds and arrogance of public officials. The relations between the authorities and the society should be built not on one-sided attitude but on mutual trust and mutual support. We should not ignore the people and the opposition during the carefree times and count on their support during the difficult times.” This “internal political” part of the interview is also composed in a restrained accent in accordance with the situation.

Those who are making “dispossession” calls (let us seize the money from the rich and buy weapons), let them also think somewhat more restrained and sober mind. The experience shows that what is seized from the rich is possessed by the “seizers” and does not serve its purpose. No radical solutions are necessary, if the rich pay their taxes in full, we will have everything that we need.

Robert Kocharyan reaction to Ter-Petrosyan -Sargsyan meeting was also noteworthy. It is obvious that now he is thinking not about the issues that the first and third presidents were discussing but continuing the internal political struggle from the “shadow” and “instigating” corresponding for this purpose politicians, publicists and media. But I do not lose my hope on this too. Yes, at this moment, our second president was unable to remove the bitter emotions in his midst. This is this man’s character, which is mirrored, particularly, in the internal political campaign, his “Haylur” and the above-mentioned politicians, publicists and mass media. Never mind, it is quite possible that they will be changed tomorrow. Life is compelling, nothing is forever.
